Marvin was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 1998, and exited this life on December 2, 2003, leaving an amazing legacy of art which Wendy continues to color and exhibit. The blockprints begin with a drawing Marvin made on a flat block of wood or linoleum. Using very sharp tools, the image is cut into the block, carving away what will be white space, and leaving the line. Oil-based ink is applied to the block’s surface, and then printed onto paper using a hand-pulled sign press. Wendy adds watercolor when the ink is dry. Marvin found inspiration for the narrative blockprints from his dreams, and the books he passionately devoured. Combined with Wendy’s expressive use of watercolor, Marvin’s visions revisit the art of storytelling at an extraordinary, interpretive level.
