My main inspiration is nature: everything starts there and everything comes from there. Also I find a lot of inspiration in mythology, legends, fairy tales and folklore. In my art I like to merge reality with imagination, life with fantasy, obtained things with desired ones. I like symbols and metaphors and use them often. I work with very old intaglio print techniques on copper and zinc plates. Each image is etched and engraved on metal, hand inked with oil based etching ink, hand wiped and hand pulled on paper through an etching press. The body of work in this show represents my experiments with intaglio prints.Trying to find a new approach to a very old technique, I hand cut my intaglio prints and combine them in a one of a kind 3D composition.

Latvian artist Marina Terauds has dedicated her work to intaglio printmaking. She received her Master's degree in printmaking (Latvian Academy of Arts) and in art pedagogy (Latvian State University). Though the stylistic elements in her art have varied, there has always been a love for the unique, spiritual alchemy, and a search for the combination of beauty and mystery of nature. Her works, though in point are not the naturalistic reflection of the world around, charm the spectator by the thorough knowledge of the subject shown. All Marina's prints are hand printed on site using traditional printmaking methods unchanged in over 400 years.

I was born in Russia (Siberia), and spent the main part of my life in Riga, Latvia, where I studied at the Latvian State Academy of Arts (MFA - Printmaking) and at Latvian State University (MFA - Art Education). Now, I live and work in Michigan. I primarily work with intaglio print techniques on copper and zinc plates. The term "intaglio", from the Italian "intagliare", means "to carve or cut into". In my artwork I use different intaglio techniques: etching, aquatint, mezzotint, drypoint and engraving. Nature is my main inspiration.
