Loretta Petraitis

Loretta Petraitis was born in City Kaunas, Lithuania in 1964 and graduated from Vilnius Art Academy with an MFA in 1994. During her studies from 1985-1996 she designed patterns for fabrics for the textile factories in her native City Kaunas. Immigration to the US in 1996 heightened Loretta’s true passion for painting, where her creative nature started to unfold. Working with various textures and City Scapes of Urban/Industrial objects allows her painting to explore super realistic effects. This path brings her attention to details, often finding new, undiscovered ways of techniques.She builds the canvas with textured media and pallet knife, then, after drying, she continues with the oils. Loretta’s desire and objective is to reach the state when painting itself starts talking.

Most ideas derive from the urban industrial landscape of the "city with the big shoulders." There I find profound man-made landscapes with the incredible skylines, rusty metal, abandoned concrete, and loneliness, that evoke an idea of antiquity and life left behind. I build the surface of the canvas with different acrylic medias mixed with marble powder and sand. When it dries I continue with oils. I create deep dimensional and philosophical outfit to my paintings, so the realistically incorporated objects can speak for themselves. Loretta has been a professional artist since 1984. She has an MFA (1994) from the Art Academy in Lithuania.
