Jenny Henley

Jenny Henley's methodology embraces sculptural practices in a two-dimensional mixed-media framework. She uses imagery fused with nostalgic sensibility, recognizable to an audience familiar with contemporary notions of art. Though the gel process of transferring photographic imagery from paper to substrate is a well-known technique, Henley uses an original formula that gives her greater control and a very sleek final result. She prints her images on standard tabloid paper, then paints on the image with acrylic. While the paint is still wet she adheres the paper to birch board. Once dry she removes every fiber of the transfer paper. Finally, the image on birch board is sealed with an ultraviolet protectant and framed. Henley has won prestigious awards including Women in Design at ELLE DECOR and Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. Henley is also the founder of the First Friday Art Walk Marietta Square, and one of the original founders of Atlanta's i45.

She uses socially recognizable imagery, appropriate for an audience familiar with contemporary notions of art, yet fused to a slightly nostalgic sensibility. The gel-transfer process is used to apply photographic imagery to the substrate. Though a fairly well known technique, Henley has devised an original formula that gives her greater control and a very sleek (without being slick) final result. The image is printed on standard paper with laser ink, then painted with acrylic. While the paint is wet Henley adheres the paper to birch board. Once dry, every paper fiber is removed with water, by hand. Finally, the piece is sealed with an ultraviolet protectant, and framed by the artist. Henley has won prestigious awards including Women in Design at ELLE DECOR and Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. Active in Atlanta’s art community, she is one 32 of the founders of i45, and the founder of the First Friday Art Walk Marietta Square.
