Jennifer: If Ellen’s clarinet needs that much work, then maybe you do need a pro. And if Music & Art will set you up with a loaner tomorrow, by golly, why not take Ellen’s wooden clarinet there for a check-up, too. Or, ask Dr. Camm if she’ll loan you hers. That’s right, Dr. Camm played in the Seminole Community College Orchestra. She knows the conductor of one the local youth orchestras – a teacher out at Trinity Prep.
I can’t believe I missed you by three minutes.

I went to an opening for Trish Thompson at Art on Douglas, a gallery in New Symrna owned by the Atlantic Center. Dr. Camm didn’t give me all the details beforehand. So, I was a little surprised. But she did take me by the Center. It was closed. Still, we met all the millionaires that made it possible. Met the current mayor of New Symrna. Met a past mayor of Lake Helen. Saw a couple pieces by Audrey Phillips – your friend? I think I saw Steve Vaughn leaving. A woman walked into the room and turned every head with her heavenly glow – I think it was the godDESS Lynn Whipple. Met Anna Tomczak a multimedia artist, and wife of former Lake Helen mayor, who is hosting a workshop with the godDESS L.W. of multi media in Lake Helen October second thru the fourth at a cost of $350 plus incidentals, travel, lodging, etc. Ran over my own toes with the good doctor wheel chair. Dined in the dark parking lot of one of few true drive-ins in the western world – Pappas. The waitresses did not wear roller skates. Joked all the way. Except when speaking of serious matter. But spoke of none. So, giggles galore.
Guess honest, responsible blogging will have to wait until tomorrow…hope you had a nice evening…I can blog tomorrow morning at 10 am for a bit…let me know if you can log on then…over and candle out. Jen
Ellen’s clarinet needs some work to get back to playing condition: pads replaced, pads re-seated, bent keys straightened…other keys adjusted.
I took the clarinet to:
The Band Room on Curry Ford: estimate – $150; no loaner or rental while it’s in the shop…work takes 3-5 days.
Sam Ash: $80; no loaner or rental…work takes about 3-5 days.
Music & Art in Longwood: For $90 for the year ($169.00 for two) an Instrument Maintenance Plan can be purchased…all the work can be done under this plan and Ellen can bring her clarinet in whenever she feels she needs a tune-up – they even replace cork under the plan when needed…and…supply a loaner at no extra charge. Work takes about 3 days.
So, what say you? Any other options? Ellen’s teacher told me about Underwood Music but when I called, twice, there was no answer or voice mail. I like the Music & Art option even though the location is not convenient. They are open tomorrow.
