2^3

Ellen:

Tonight I had dinner with Camden and Taylor and Michael – guys night out. They talked alot about a board game called Mario Party. Sounded like my kind of game – long and frustrating. Then they got on the subject of math and I lit up because I had an algebra question on my mind – What does “^” mean? Camden had a pocket communicator and he googled it because neither he nor Taylor could remember. But he did get the answer for me.

In lieu of a superscript numeral the carat sign – as “^” is called – is used to identify the next number as the exponent, or power, of the the number that precedes it.

2^3 means 2 to the power of 3 or 2x2x2

So, the topic in BIP turned to children today. And tonight I had dinner with the nephews I drove to tears in the middle of wild Alaska. But you’d seen it before.

If there is anything I can do for you let me know.
