Snapper Thermostat

Two years in a row, just as spring turns a corner and the rain brings the grass up, I’ve had problems starting my Snapper (Briggs & Stratton). Both years it was the thermostat. Not the gas. Not the carburetor. Just the thermostat.

The thermostat is hidden under the pull start housing. But it is still vulnerable to my abuse – I jam the mower face first into every bush in my path. And the tab at the top of the thermostat, or the aluminum bracket gets bent just enough to disable its function. The video below helps … a little.

A couple other things. One, the dead oak on the property line between the house and the duplex finally went over. I pushed it. But it was rotten enough in the roots to go over. No damage to the fence. Two, the Z-turn mower started. I sprayed the inside of the key switch with parts cleaner, and brushed the contacts. It still requires a twisting turn with the key to start. So, the switch may require replacement.
