Bigger World
Posted in David | 1 Comment »Hi David:
You said in counseling that you wanted to live in a “…bigger world.” Correct my memory…I remember “…cooking dinner, gardening, working on the computer, things around the house…living in a bigger world.” This sounded positive to me…was it? When you said it, it didn’t sound separate, even when I could imagine that some of the “bigger world” activities at times would be. So, am I off base, on target? Tell me in the post, or in person.

Flash of Genius
Posted in David | 3 Comments »This is the movie staring Greg Kinnear.
Synopsis: Based on the true story of college professor and part-time inventor Robert Kearns’ long battle with the U.S. automobile industry, Flash of Genius tells the tale of one man whose fight to receive recognition for his ingenuity would come at a heavy price. But this determined engineer refused to be silenced, and he took on the corporate titans in a battle that nobody thought he could win. The Kearns were a typical 1960s Detroit family, trying to live their version of the American Dream. Local university professor Bob married teacher Phyllis and, by their mid-thirties, had six kids who brought them a hectic but satisfying Midwestern existence. When Bob invents a device that would eventually be used by every car in the world, the Kearns think they have struck gold. But their aspirations are dashed after the auto giants who embraced Bob’s creation unceremoniously shunned the man who invented it. Ignored, threatened and then buried in years of litigation, Bob is haunted by what was done to his family and their future. He becomes a man obsessed with justice and the conviction that his life’s work-or for that matter, anyone’s work-be acknowledged by those who stood to benefit. And while paying the toll for refusing to compromise his dignity, this everyday David will try the unthinkable: to bring Goliath to his knees

Posted in Jen & Ellen | No Comments »There’s a new link on the links page. It’s AR BookFinder. It connects to a database of Accelerated Reader books.
The database can be used to determine if a title is an AR book. It can also be used to determine the Interest Level, Reading Level, and POINT VALUE of a particular book.

Feeling Good
Posted in Jen & Ellen | 1 Comment »
Birds flying high
You know how I feel
Sun in the sky
You know how I feel
Breeze driftin’ on by
You know how I feel
It’s a new dawn
It’s a new day
It’s a new life
For me
And I’m feeling good
Fish in the sea
You know how I feel
River running free
You know how I feel
Blossom on a tree
You know how I feel
It’s a new dawn
It’s a new day
It’s a new life
For me
And I’m feeling good
Dragonfly out in the sun you know what I mean, don’t you know
Butterflies all havin’ fun you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is done
That’s what I mean
And this old world is a new world
And a bold world
For me
Stars when you shine
You know how I feel
Scent of the pine
You know how I feel
Oh freedom is mine
And I know how I feel
It’s a new dawn
It’s a new day
It’s a new life
For me
And I’m feeling good

lie 2 me
Posted in Ellen | No Comments »Ellen:
Found a new show on Hulu. It’s neat. It’s about a guy who’s an expert lie detector.
My BIP instructor was trained in lie detection. And the character in this series is based on a real guy named Paul Ekman.
Maybe we should get one of Ekman’s books. Watch an episode of Lie To Me. and then tell which one of Ekman’s books we should get.
Here’s a podcast interview with Ekman on a New York public radio station.

crack of doom
Posted in Ellen | No Comments »LN: Here’s an episode of another “gate” show, one I watched when I was growing up – Time Tunnel.
This episode is mediocre but it introduced me to one of my favorite phrases – “Crack of Doom”. Typical of the series this episode puts the main characters smack dab in the center of a major historical event – the cataclysmic explosion of Krakatoa.
