Maya at the Playa
Posted on Saturday, September 19th, 2009 at 1:40 pmHi David: There are only 8 all access passes (4-day) left at $100 each. Doesn’t look like day passes are being sold. I’ve attached the schedule of workshops. The workshops sound great…Ellen has a game Friday night…the only days we could attend would be Saturday and Sunday. There is a music performance Saturday night along with a lifetime achievement awards ceremony/keynote lecture that I think would be worthwhile to attend ($5/free)…a good start for this year. So, I’m going to suggest that you keep your plans for Maine…Ellen and I can go check out the whole thing at the Saturday night event…meet some people…pick up information and she can hear about the work of Dr. Merle Greene Robertson, who is receiving the award. Your thoughts? Jen

I’m having a little coffee and writing to you. I’ll be going to Park Lake in a few minutes.
I printed out the descriptions of the lectures and workshops for the Maya event. I’ll look it over in detail when I get back here around lunch time.
Does Ellen have any time to look over the lecture and workshop descriptions? Early decisions would make it possible to do a ‘back-ground check’ on the speakers. What courses are they teaching at their respective universities? What books have they written? Are the books available? What does Google reveal? Etc. Any prep would add to the event.
Did the study group go off?
Is Ellen on track for a movie tonight?
I’ll be watching the blog. Of course, there is the telephone!?
D: I’ll book the condo with your Mom today…Ellen is up for the music/presentation…if the subject was Egyptian culture I think she would be up there already waiting for the speakers to arrive! Without you? Well…your curiosity and interest always bring something special to events like this…I told Ellen that we won’t be shy about introducing ourselves to people and asking them their story…what they do, how they got interested, etc…I’m thinking, too, to ask someone in charge about attending workshops on Sunday for a small “day” fee…an interested 14-year-old to encourage should give them every reason to say “yes.” I don’t want to work this out ahead of time as I don’t want to give them an opportunity to say “no.” I hope you enjoy your time in Maine…I think it’s nice that you are going. OK. I quess. I JUST talked to my mom. She JUST bought the ticket. So, I’ve got the SUPER guilties. But I can live with myself. Did you get the condo for the weekend? Is Ellen up for it? Without Dad?
