L&: How’s that for a name? L followed by an ampersand. I know – an ampersand stands for ‘and’ not ‘en’. But, most folks look at an ampersand and drop the ‘d’ to say ‘an’ instead of what they should say ‘and’, and most folks schwa the ‘a’ in ‘an’ making is sound as ‘en’. So, all that explanation means it’s just mediocre, doesn’t it? ‘L&’ is just a big “Wha’?” for most folks – they’d want an explanation, and the explanation ain’t never good enough. OK. Never mind. But it looks so cool! Can you imagine that on a t-shirt – L&.
Anyway, back to ‘why’ I’m writing you. Well, first of all, I’m writing you because its the only form of contact the court permits. Second, I wanted to tell you to go online and read a little Walt Whitman. You’ll like his poems. Try I Celebrate Myself. Then tell me when you think it was written? Could it have been yesterday? Could it have been written when Greece was at the center of the world and Alexander was marching over the hills and through the swamps of India? Is it, in other words, stuck in its time, or is it timeless? Would Mattie like it? Does it, in other words, speak to all, or just the kindred spirit?
Anyway, I put one of Whitman’s poem’s in our poetry section. You’ve read it before, I think. It’s called Unfolded Out of the Folds. Swamp Dawg
