Camper Away!

Posted on Sunday, June 7th, 2009 at 5:08 pm

Well…if there was a class in Camper Mom 101…I missed it. Arrive earlier than scheduled arrival time…secure bunk…travel with plastic three drawer dresser…choose box fan over small fan…arrange three pairs of sunglasses and hair products neatly on top, etc…etc…it was obvious that some girls had been here before. Ah well…now we know…anyway…Ellen has everything she needs and a great hat to boot!

Bob Marley was playing from the registration station (talent show building)…making us (me)  feel welcome. A scene of organized commotion. Murray remembered us and Diana greeted Ellen with a hug. Met a fellow camper and bunk mate, Lucy, and her folks upon arrival, and one of Ellen’s camp (bunk) counselor’s – 19-year-old Anna from Cleveland. Ellen is in the last cabin at the end of the lake…top bunk in the middle. Her nerves gave way to complete excitment as she sweetly waved good-bye.

Thanks for all the information. You’ve made some interesting choices. Good luck with them. I hope you get what you expect.

Hey there! I’m here, too. Going to read your comments now. Then I’ll upload my BIP homework for the week.

    Lot’s of questions…
Writing: the kids at camp write home once a week…Ellen has a few preaddressed stamped envelopes. She can receive mail, too. I’ll post the address as I don’t have it with me (staying at my folks tonight – Dad not doing well…not completely bad, yet…but dealing with alot…will share in a separate post).
How does she look: Happy, relaxed, confident, a smile on her face.
Box fan vs. small fan: Yes I should have known…I just couldn’t see “packing” it…it wouldn’t have been a big deal as all was dropped off at the door…we tested out the small fan and it will be ok…they’ll be lots of box fans blowing, too, and like you said, she does have the advantage of having grown up in a Florida bungalow.
On the way home: I was with your folks. I asked them if they wanted to go with us to drop Ellen off and see where she would be. They really liked Circle F…we stopped at Perkins for lunch…your Mom finished a movie she and Ellen started on our way there…your Dad let me drive home…we talked about the orange groves that used to be there, the accupuncture “seeds” in his ears, his projected retirement date, and we were quiet together, too. I thought about how much I love Florida.
Rain: Missed us on the way home.
FFA Meeting: How did it go?
Without Ellen all week: I wish I could say I would be relaxing in a bubble bath each night with bon-bon’s and a good book. But, lot’s to prep for…I want to be sure the birds are set before you come so you don’t have to cut fruit for the weekend…clean the bathroom…Elizabeth’s birthday party…a meeting…cut the grass…helping at my folks…get ready for Atlanta.
I’ll be posting a Housekeeping Post to fill you in on Diostede, soon.
BIP: I have DV (Domestic Violence) class stuff to share that might interest you. I am interested in BIP.
Green House speaker meeting: Good to have friends.

You’re there!? I was hoping to hear from you.
How are you going to hear from Ellen? Postcards? Are you mailing her any?
Thanks for the word picture. I could almost see it. Your Camper Mom surprise. Ellen’s nerves … giving way? What am I looking at when Ellen’s nerves give way?
My last entry probably missed you two. But I did spend a little time myself this morning seeing her off to all the good things I hope happen.
Yeah. I wouldn’t have known about the three drawer thing either. We all used footlockers way back when. Something recommended on the Circle F packing list you were using, right? The box fan, though … That’s on you. You’ve been to that camp! She won’t care though. She’s a Florida girl, right. Besides, I bet some desperate girl from an air conditionned home will definitely find a way to make use of every available fan!
What did you think about on the way home alone?
Did the rain hit you the same time it hit me?
We may have been on the road and headed in the same direction at the same time. I went to Land-o-Lakes today for an FFA meeting. Got home twenty minutes before your post.
And now what are you going to do without Ellen all week?
Later I’ll post some of my BIP stuff. That might interest you. Shortly I’m leaving for the Green House speaker meeting – Kevin’s talked me into it.
